Preliminary HIV/AIDS Incidence Surveillance, Cleveland Q2 2008
HIV/AIDS surveillance reports through June 2008 show that new HIV and AIDS diagnoses are on par with levels from 2006. Cleveland Department of Public Health reports half of new diagnoses in African American males were age 13 to 39, while 60% of African American females were over 40 when diagnosed. Nearly 2/3rds of all males recently diagnosed in Cuyahoga County reported MSM/Bisexual activity likely leading to infection with HIV. Injection drug use was rare, at less than 5% of all cases, male and female.
